C2800 Preamplifier

on-demo
in-stock

The McIntosh C2800 is the vacuum-tube counterpart to the solid-state C55, offering similarly broad source and system flexibility through a distinctly different analog architecture. Three 12AX7A tubes and one 12AT7 tube form its four-tube complement, visible beneath the glass top panel, while precision volume control and fully regulated power supplies support quiet, consistent operation.

Sixteen inputs make the C2800 a versatile control center for a serious two-channel system. Its nine analog inputs include two independently configurable moving-coil or moving-magnet phono inputs, while the included DA2 Digital Audio Module handles seven digital sources. Three variable output sets, adjustable filtering, subwoofer capability, and a Processor Loop provide room to shape and expand the system over time.

Three Important Features

  • Four-tube analog architecture: A dedicated vacuum-tube signal path distinguishes the C2800 from its solid-state C55 sibling.
  • Comprehensive source connectivity: Nine analog and seven digital inputs include two configurable phono inputs and the upgradeable DA2 Digital Audio Module.
  • Flexible system integration: Three variable output sets, adjustable high-pass and low-pass filtering, subwoofer support, and a Processor Loop accommodate sophisticated stereo systems.

Three Important Specifications

  • Tube complement: Three 12AX7A and one 12AT7.
  • Total harmonic distortion: 0.08%.
  • Frequency response: +0/-0.5dB from 20Hz to 20kHz; +0/-3dB from 15Hz to 100kHz.
