C12000 Preamplifier

on-demo

The McIntosh C12000 separates control and audio functions across two coordinated chassis, reducing interaction between power, control, and signal circuitry. Its fully balanced, dual-mono layout provides both vacuum-tube and solid-state outputs, allowing the system to be configured around the partnering amplifier and listening preference.

Twelve analog inputs include six balanced, four unbalanced, and two configurable phono inputs. The two phono inputs can each be set for moving-coil or moving-magnet cartridges, while four output paths and user-selectable tube or solid-state operation give the C12000 unusual flexibility in a reference two-channel system.

Three Important Features

  • Two-chassis architecture: The Controller and Preamplifier modules isolate power and control functions from the audio circuitry.
  • Selectable output character: Balanced vacuum-tube and solid-state outputs allow either signal path to be used.
  • Configurable analog connectivity: Twelve analog inputs include two phono inputs that can each be configured for moving-coil or moving-magnet cartridges.

Three Important Specifications

  • Tube complement: High-level section: four 12AT7 and two 12AX7A; phono section: four 12AX7A.
  • Total harmonic distortion: High-level: 0.005%; phono: 0.05%.
  • Frequency response: +0/-0.5dB from 20Hz to 20kHz; +0/-3dB from 10Hz to 100kHz.
