The MTI100 combines a belt-drive turntable with a full amplifier in a single chassis. The turntable has a 7 lb (3.18 kg) machined aluminum platter on an inverted hardened-steel bearing, driven by an AC synchronous motor. Speed changes between 33⅓ and 45 rpm are made by hand on a two-step pulley. The machined aluminum tonearm uses a cardan bearing and comes with a Sumiko Olympia moving magnet cartridge fitted. Underneath sits a preamplifier with two 12AX7 vacuum tubes, an MM phono stage, and a Class D power amplifier rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 Ω (80 watts into 4 Ω). Coaxial and optical digital inputs, one analog input, and Bluetooth 4.2 let it play CDs, a TV or a phone as well as records. It also has a subwoofer output and a headphone jack. Volume, power and input are controlled from two front knobs or the included remote, under a glass top panel with the illuminated McIntosh logo.
The MTI100 is for listeners who want McIntosh sound and looks without a rack of separate components: a den, an office, a second system or a smaller room. Pair it with efficient bookshelf or compact floor-standing speakers. McIntosh suggests its own XR50 or XR100. It won the HiFi+ Editor's Choice award for 2020, and SoundStage reviewed it in 2019. The tonearm has no user adjustments and the turntable has no dust cover, so it's best kept where it won't collect dust or get bumped.
