Linn's standard aluminum sub-chassis for the Sondek LP12: a sandwich-construction box of 1.5 mm aluminum that gives the bearing and the laminated armboard a rigid, damped platform, fitted to every Majik LP12.
Fitted as standard to the Majik LP12; made in versions for Linn, Rega, SME and Naim tonearms. Armboard sold separately on Linn's list.

The story
The sub-chassis is the floating platform that carries the bearing and the armboard on the LP12's three springs, so its stiffness and damping decide how faithfully stylus and groove move together. Linn's standard version, fitted to the Majik LP12 and sold on Linn's list as the Standard Sub-Chassis, is a sandwich-construction box folded from 1.5 mm aluminum, strong and rigid for its weight, and it pairs with the five-layer laminated armboard to give the tonearm a firm, acoustically damped base. It is the direct replacement for the pressed-steel sub-chassis of earlier decks, and it is made in versions for Linn, Rega, SME and Naim arm geometries.
Hi-Fi News measured a Majik LP12 built on this sub-chassis in 2021: peak wow and flutter of 0.02 and 0.04 percent and rumble of −70 dB through the groove, in a deck the magazine found "makes music sound natural, unforced, easy and yet expressive and emotional." It is the first of three sub-chassis in Linn's range. The Kore bonds a machined armboard to a three-layer box for a stiffer, one-piece link between arm and bearing; the Keel SE machines both from solid. The Majik sub-chassis is the right choice when the aim is to bring an old deck to current standard specification at modest cost, or to fit a non-Linn arm.
Changing a sub-chassis means rebuilding the suspension and re-setting the arm, which we do on our bench with the Karousel bearing fitted if the deck does not already have one.

Every Sondek LP12 built since 1972 shares the same plinth geometry, so each part below bolts into any deck. Linn's own guidance is to prioritize upgrades source-first, and its components page gives the suggested order roughly as bearing, deck, power supply, sub-chassis, tonearm, cartridge, phono stage and base board. Prices are our current store prices for each part on its own; fitting is done in our workshop.

Every Sondek LP12 shares the same plinth, steel top plate, suspension and platters, so any deck can be brought to current specification one part at a time. These are the mechanical parts Linn sells separately, in order of price.
