The story

Uphorik shares its dual-mono layout and fully screened differential input with the Urika but lives in its own full-width chassis and works with any turntable. Moving magnet and moving coil cartridges get separate, dedicated inputs and circuits, each on RCA and balanced XLR. Gain is switched between +44 and +48 dB for MM and +54 and +64 dB for MC; MM loading offers four resistances around 47 kΩ and eight capacitances from 68 to 325 pF, and MC loading eleven resistances from 31 Ω to 1 kΩ with four capacitances from 470 pF to 2 nF. RIAA accuracy is ±0.2 dB, signal-to-noise better than 105 dB on both inputs and THD+N better than 0.015 percent. Outputs are RCA at 300 Ω and balanced XLR at 600 Ω, and a Linn Dynamik switch-mode supply powers it.

Jimmy Hughes, reviewing the Uphorik for TechRadar, heard "a sound that's neutral and natural, yet colourful and full of incident" and summed it up: "The Uphorik gives you the plain truth – it reveals but does not embellish." The range of adjustment means it will take an Adikt today and an Ekstatik later without being replaced, and the balanced path suits a T-Kable in XLR.

Uphorik is the entry to Linn's three phono stages. The Urika and Urika II mount inside an LP12 and need a Radikal; Uphorik is the choice for a Majik or Selekt LP12 with a Lingo, for a turntable from another maker, or for any system whose preamplifier lacks a phono input. It comes in silver or black.

Key technologies

  • Dual mono. Separate left and right circuits with internal shielding, as in the Urika.
  • Separate MM and MC circuits. Each with RCA and balanced XLR inputs.
  • Switched loading and gain. Four gain settings, fifteen resistances and twelve capacitances cover almost any cartridge.
  • Balanced and single-ended outputs. XLR at 600 Ω and RCA at 300 Ω.
  • Dynamik power supply. Linn switch-mode supply, auto-sensing 100–120 / 220–240 V.

Finishes

  • Silver anodized aluminum
  • Black anodized aluminum

Both finishes are the same price.
