The story

The 706 S3 uses the same 6.5-inch Continuum Cone bass/midrange and rear Flowport as the 705 S3, but mounts its Carbon Dome tweeter in the cabinet, decoupled from it, rather than in a housing on top. That makes it a little shorter, a little lighter and a useful step less expensive, with the same 45 Hz low-frequency limit and 88 dB sensitivity.

For a listener who wants the 700 Series sound in a simpler form, this is the model to hear. The Continuum Cone gives voices and instruments the open, neutral character the series is known for, and the 3.7 Ω minimum impedance is an easy load for a good integrated amplifier in B&W's 30 to 120 W range.

It suits small-to-medium rooms on rigid stands, and B&W's FS-700 S3 is made for it. Arrange an audition in our Portland showroom to compare it directly with the 705 S3.

Key technologies

  • Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter. A carbon-reinforced dome built for the 700 Series, with a break-up point B&W puts at 47 kHz, decoupled from the cabinet.
  • Continuum Cone bass/midrange. B&W's composite cone avoids the abrupt break-up of a conventional cone, for open, neutral voices and instruments.
  • Decoupled tweeter mounting. The tweeter is isolated from the cabinet so vibration from the bass/midrange driver does not reach it.
  • Flowport. B&W's dimpled bass port, designed to reduce turbulence and port noise.

Finishes

  • Gloss Black with black grille
  • Mocha with black grille
  • Satin White with black or grey grille

All three finishes are the same price. Grilles are included: black as standard, with grey available for Satin White.
