The 707 S3 is a compact two-way with the same core parts as the rest of the 700 Series: a decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter and a 5-inch Continuum Cone bass/midrange. The front baffle is gently curved and the bass/midrange driver sits in its own pod, a layout borrowed from the 800 Series Diamond to keep the cabinet quiet, and a Flowport at the back handles the bass.

This is a speaker for smaller rooms, near-field listening or a desktop, and a good choice for surrounds in a 700 Series theater. At 84 dB it is the least sensitive model in the range, so give it a solid amplifier rather than a low-powered one; B&W recommends 30 to 100 W. Put it on stands, or on a firm shelf a little way from the wall, and add a subwoofer if you want deep bass.

Key technologies

  • Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter. A carbon-reinforced dome made for the 700 Series. B&W puts its breakup point at 47 kHz, well above the audible range.
  • Continuum cone. B&W's composite cone avoids the abrupt changes in behavior of a conventional cone, for a more open, neutral midrange.
  • Curved baffle and driver pod. The baffle is gently curved and the bass/midrange driver sits in its own pod, an idea taken from the 800 Series Diamond to reduce cabinet coloration.
  • Flowport. B&W's dimpled bass port, designed to reduce turbulence and port noise.

Finishes

  • Gloss Black with black grille
  • Mocha with black grille
  • Satin White with black or grey grille

The grille is black as standard; Satin White can also be ordered with a grey grille.
