704 S3

Bowers & Wilkins · 700 Series S3

The slimmest tower B&W makes: a true three-way with a dedicated midrange, in a cabinet just 6.5 inches wide.

Price is for a pair.

The 704 S3 is a three-way: a decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter, a 5-inch Continuum Cone FST midrange with Biomimetic Suspension, decoupled from the cabinet so the bass drivers don't disturb it, and two 5-inch Aerofoil Profile bass cones whose varying thickness keeps them stiff where it matters. The cabinet is only 6.5 inches wide, with a plinth that widens the footprint for stability.

Giving the midrange its own driver is what sets the 704 apart from a standmount on a stand: voices stay clean while the bass drivers work. It is the floorstander to choose when space or décor is tight. At 88 dB with a 3.1 Ω minimum, pair it with a solid amplifier in B&W's 30 to 150 W range. It suits small-to-medium rooms.

Key technologies

  • Decoupled Carbon Dome tweeter. A carbon-reinforced dome made for the 700 Series. B&W puts its breakup point at 47 kHz, well above the audible range.
  • Decoupled FST midrange. The 3-way models use a dedicated Continuum cone FST midrange with Biomimetic Suspension, decoupled from the cabinet so the bass drivers don't disturb it.
  • Aerofoil Profile bass cones. Cones of varying thickness, stiff where it matters most, for deep, dynamic bass.
  • Flowport. B&W's dimpled bass port, designed to reduce turbulence and port noise.

Finishes

  • Gloss Black with black grille
  • Mocha with black grille
  • Satin White with black or grey grille

The grille is black as standard; Satin White can also be ordered with a grey grille.

Where it sits in the range

  • 702 S3: 3-way floorstander, 3 × 6.5 in bass
  • 703 S3: 3-way floorstander, 2 × 6.5 in bass
  • 704 S3 (this model)
  • 705 S3: 2-way standmount, Tweeter-on-Top
  • 706 S3: 2-way standmount, 6.5 in bass/mid
  • 707 S3: compact 2-way standmount, 5 in bass/mid

For home theater, B&W makes the HTM71 S3 and HTM72 S3 center channels to match, and the FS-700 S3 stand for the standmounts; ask us about ordering them. The step up is the 800 Series Diamond D5, such as the 805 D5 standmount and 804 D5 tower.
