The story

The f212v2 stacks two proprietary 12-inch JL Audio drivers in a sealed cabinet about 32 inches tall, with a combined effective displacement of 574 cubic inches, driven by a 3,600-watt switching amplifier with a large toroidal transformer. JL's onboard DSP runs D.A.R.O., 18-band Digital Automatic Room Optimization, with the included calibration microphone, and the front-mounted controls match the rest of the Fathom range.

Reviewers found it forceful and deep, with bass that stays controlled and well defined, and that it still integrates smoothly with the main speakers rather than swamping them. It reaches 19 Hz at −3 dB and has the most output of any Fathom, so it suits large rooms, dedicated theaters and full-range stereo systems that need real headroom. At 204 pounds, plan delivery and placement before it arrives; we can help.

Key technologies

  • Proprietary JL Audio driver. Engineered for a true subwoofer passband and very high output with low distortion.
  • Switching amplifier. A powerful switching design with a large toroidal transformer and a patented circuit for control and fidelity.
  • D.A.R.O. 18-band Digital Automatic Room Optimization, set up with the included calibration microphone; it can be switched off.
  • E.L.F. trim. Adjusts the deepest bass by −12 to +3 dB at 25 Hz to suit the room and your taste.
  • Master/slave linking. A balanced XLR output feeds a second Fathom, so two subs can be run and corrected as one.
  • Sealed cabinet, front controls. A conventional sealed box that suits built-in installations, with controls on the front.

Finishes

  • Gloss Black high-gloss black

Supplied with a grille. Photos show the Gloss Black finish.
