The story
The Valhalla 2 Speaker Cable consists of twenty-eight solid-core 22 AWG conductors of silver-plated 99.999999% oxygen-free copper, divided into four groups of seven. A Dual Mono-Filament wrap is wound helically around each conductor before it is sealed in a tube of high-purity class 1.1 extruded FEP, so the copper touches almost no dielectric. Conductor spacing and length are mechanically tuned. Nordost quotes 10.9 pF/ft, 0.125 µH/ft and a velocity of propagation of 97%.
Valhalla 2 replaced the original Valhalla in 2014, and the reviews that followed treated it as a benchmark. Brian Damkroger wrote in Stereophile that Nordost had hit a home run, and Marc Mickelson of The Audio Beat found it a clear step beyond Frey 2 in resolution and coherence. Jacob Heilbrunn in The Absolute Sound judged the set well balanced and likely to improve most systems. The character is speed and transparency without thinness; the cable lets a system's own balance through.
The terminations are Nordost's HOLO:PLUG gold-plated spade, 8.5 mm internal and 12.6 mm external, or the gold-plated low-mass Z-plug banana, chosen separately for each end. Pairs are built to order in the lengths in the selector, from 1.25 m to 4 m, with longer runs and bi-wire configurations available on request. It is the cable we reach for with Magico, Sonus faber Reference and Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series systems.
