The story
Tyr 3 is the flagship of Nordost's Norse 3 series and the closest the middle range comes to Valhalla 2. Each cable carries twenty-six solid-core 22 AWG conductors of silver-plated 99.99999% oxygen-free copper, each held in a Micro Mono-Filament spiral inside an extruded FEP jacket. Inductance is 0.63 µH/ft and the velocity of propagation is 97%, the same figure Nordost quotes for Valhalla 2.
The terminations are ultrasonically welded, a solder-free bond that Nordost introduced with Norse 3, and the gold-plated spade and Z-plug banana connectors sit in a purpose-built housing. Conductor lengths are mechanically tuned to a formula for the geometry.
Tyr 3 belongs with a reference-level power amplifier and full-range loudspeaker, where its lower resistance and inductance show as control and scale. Pairs are built to order with bananas or 6.5 mm spades chosen separately for each end; 8.5 mm spades and lengths beyond 7 m are available on request.
