The XCS1.5K is a ported hybrid three- and four-way center channel. Four 8-inch long-throw carbon fiber sandwich woofers fill the bass cabinet, and a line array of 14 two-and-a-half-inch midranges and 25 three-quarter-inch tweeters, all aluminum domes, is mounted in front of it. The crossover is phase-matched, with film capacitors and auto-resetting protection on the midrange and tweeter sections. A five-position tilt adjustment lets you aim the array toward the listening position.
In a home theater the center carries most of the dialogue, so it has to match the front left and right speakers. The XCS1.5K is voiced to match the XRT2.1K and XRT1.1K, so voices and effects pan across the front without changing character. It is a large, heavy speaker (178 lb), so plan the platform or cabinet before ordering. Three sets of Solid Cinch binding posts (mid/high, low and subwoofer) allow tri-amping or tri-wiring.
