The ML1 Mk II places two 4-inch low-frequency midranges, a 2-inch soft-dome upper midrange and a three-quarter-inch titanium-dome tweeter close together on a milled transition plate, above a 12-inch woofer in its own airtight sealed enclosure. The woofer uses McIntosh's patented LD/HP magnetic circuit, and modern design tools shaped its bass response so the external equalizer of the original is no longer needed. The driver layout is symmetrical, so there is no left or right speaker. The Mk II replaces the original's wooden slats with a black knit cloth grille trimmed in metal.

Stereophile's reviewer singled out its off-axis performance, which makes it a good choice for listeners who don't always sit in the sweet spot. McIntosh says a subwoofer typically isn't needed. It is rated from 75 to 600 W and works with both lower-power and high-power McIntosh amplifiers; the crossover can be bi-wired or bi-amped. It suits small and medium-sized rooms and listeners who want vintage McIntosh style with current engineering.
