The story

The XA60.8 takes the XA30.8 chassis and gives each channel its own power supply, circuit and enclosure. The output stage is 40 power MOSFETs biased into Class A to the rated 60 W into 8 Ω, with the .8 series front end of constant-current sources, precise voltage references and current feedback ahead of it. Gain is 26 dB, the input impedance 100 kΩ balanced, and each chassis draws 370 W at idle.

Stereophile's Jim Austin found that the XA60.8s produced a much larger and more precisely defined soundstage than the amplifiers they replaced in his system, with images vivid enough that visitors noticed on walking in, and noted that they ran noticeably cooler than his Lamm monoblocks. Stereophile named the XA60.8 a joint Amplification Component of the Year for 2018. At 88 lb each they need floor space or a sturdy stand, and they are heavy for one person to move.

Sixty Class A watts per side, with the separation of mono amplification, suits a wide range of loudspeakers in medium-sized rooms. The XP-22 is the natural preamplifier. For more Class A power the XA100.8 adds output devices and a taller chassis; for the same money the X260.8 monos trade Class A bias for 260 W of Class AB.

Key technologies

  • Monoblock construction. Dedicated power supply, circuitry and chassis for each channel.
  • Class A bias. 40 power MOSFETs per amplifier, biased into Class A to the rated 60 W.
  • Balanced .8 front end. Constant-current sourcing, precise voltage references and current feedback in the input stage.
  • Front-panel meter. Reads output-stage bias current; rests near 12 o'clock on XA amplifiers.
  • Balanced and single-ended inputs. XLR and RCA inputs; 100 kΩ balanced, 50 kΩ single-ended.

Finishes

  • Silver anodized aluminum, standard
  • Black anodized aluminum, factory option

Silver is the standard finish shown. Black is available to order at additional cost; ask us for a quote.
