The story
The NAC 552 is the preamplifier at the top of Naim's Classic range. Its sensitive electronics are mounted on a brass sub-chassis suspended on coil springs to isolate them from vibration, and the power supply lives in a second box, the 552 PS, with an 800 VA transformer, three smoothing capacitors and Naim's DR discrete regulators. Seven DIN and two RCA inputs are assignable, two can be set to unity gain for an AV processor, and listen and record banks are independent. Volume and balance use precision rotary potentiometers under remote or front-panel control.
The NAC 552 belongs in Naim's reference system with the NAP 500 DR and ND 555. It is the choice for a listener who wants Naim's classic analogue architecture at its most resolved; the New Classic NAC 332 offers balanced inputs and a headphone amplifier at a third of the price.
Naim Classic 500 Series components are made in black anodised aluminium.
