The story

The Planar 3 has been Rega's reference point since 1977, and the current version was rebuilt almost entirely for 2016. Its plinth carries Rega's double brace: a 3 mm phenolic bottom brace and a metalised-skin phenolic top brace that tie the tonearm mounting rigidly to the main bearing. The 12 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter has a polished edge, and the brass main hub was redesigned for a better fit and less stress on the bearing.

The RB330 tonearm is hand assembled with hand-selected horizontal and vertical bearings, a stiffer bearing housing and a new bias assembly, and it carries Rega's low-capacitance phono cable with Neutrik plugs. A 24 V low-noise motor with an improved control PCB and anti-vibration circuit drives the platter through the Advanced EBLT belt. Add the Neo Mk2 power supply and you get electronic 33/45 switching, fine speed adjustment and a quieter motor.

What Hi-Fi? has named it Product of the Year seven times, most recently in 2024 with the Nd3 cartridge, and said the Planar 3/Nd3 set new standards for the price. We offer it bare, with the Nd3 or with the Nd5; either Rega cartridge aligns itself on the RB330 through its three-point fixing. It is the Rega most of our customers end up with, and the Planar 3 RS Edition shows how far the platform can go.
