The 3.7x keeps the 3.7i's 71-inch panel, True Ribbon tweeter and separate quasi-ribbon midrange and bass, and rebuilds the signal path with Magnepan's X parts: copper-rich polypropylene capacitors and Magnepan-wound air-core coils, tested and matched left to right, heavier solid-copper wiring with shorter runs, and silver-soldered connections throughout. X versions also offer extra stile finishes.

It asks for what the 3.7i asks for: a powerful, high-current amplifier, a medium-to-large room and at least 3 feet behind the panels to start. Tweeter level and inside/outside placement adjust as on the standard model. Bought new from a certified dealer it carries Magnepan's 3-year limited warranty.

Key technologies

  • Matched crossover capacitors. Copper-rich polypropylene capacitors, individually tested and sorted so left and right match closely.
  • Magnepan-wound coils. Air-core copper coils wound in-house, tested and paired.
  • Heavier, shorter wiring. 15-gauge or heavier solid copper bus wire, with excess runs removed.
  • Silver-soldered connections. Mechanical connections are kept to a minimum; nameplate parts are gilded.
  • Same panel. Identical size and shape to the standard model, so placement advice carries over.
