The story

The 810LP applies MOON's reference preamplifier engineering to the smallest signals in a system. Its balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs feed a fully differential circuit on a board floating on a five-point gel suspension derived from the 850P's M-Octave system. Each of the 24 integrated circuits in the signal path has its own power-supply inductor (i2DCf), the capacitors are 1%-tolerance metallized polypropylene, and a four-layer board with pure copper ground and power planes keeps impedance low. Gain, resistive and capacitive loading and the RIAA or IEC curve are all adjustable, and the 820S external supply is an available upgrade.

Michael Fremer in Stereophile judged it worth its considerable price for its black backgrounds, transient response and image definition, and SoundStage! Ultra's Graham Abbott heard a soundstage that "became deeper and very wide." The 810LP belongs with a reference turntable and low-output moving-coil cartridges such as the Lyra Etna or Atlas; the 610LP offers most of its design at a lower price.

Key technologies

  • Fully balanced differential circuit. XLR and RCA inputs and outputs, with the signal kept balanced throughout.
  • i2DCf. Independent Inductive DC Filtering: one inductor for each of the 24 ICs in the signal path.
  • M-Octave-derived suspension. Five-point gel suspension isolates the circuit board from vibration.
  • Full adjustability. Gain to 70 dB, resistive and capacitive loading, and RIAA or IEC equalization; 820S-compatible.

Finishes

  • Black black anodized aluminum
  • Silver silver anodized aluminum
  • 2-Tone black chassis with silver cheeks

Black, Silver and 2-Tone are MOON's standard finishes and carry the same price. Choose your finish under Options and pricing above.
