The story
The 820S moves the power supply, the noisiest part of any component, into its own chassis. Two custom toroidal transformers feed separate analog and digital supplies; each passes through two pi-type filters with 40,000 µF of capacitance and dual 20 mH chokes, then four stages of MOON's M-R2S discrete regulation, built from precision references and transistor amplifiers rather than a single regulator chip. Two sets of outputs let one 820S power two components, and the DC cables for both are included.
The 820S is compatible with the North Collection 681, 791 and 891 as well as the 810LP and 610LP phono preamplifiers. TONEAudio's Jeff Dorgay concluded that "even if you only pair the 820S with one component, the upgrade is substantial enough to invest." It is the final step for a system built around a 791 or 891 that is already in place.
