The story
The RS Rainier is the original stylus assembly for Sumiko's Rainier: a 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical diamond on an aluminum-tube cantilever. It restores the Rainier's warm, full-bodied sound and easy tracking, and it slides on without remounting or realigning the cartridge. It also fits the Olympia, Moonstone and Wellfleet, which share the same body, so it makes an inexpensive spare for everyday or well-worn records while you save a better stylus for your best pressings.
To fit it, pull the old stylus assembly straight off the front of the cartridge and press the new one on until it seats; no tools, remounting or realignment are needed. Track it at 1.8–2.2 g, with 2.0 g recommended.
The RS Rainier is the least expensive stylus in the Oyster series; the RS Olympia ($199), RS Moonstone ($249) and RS Amethyst ($549) fit the same bodies as upgrades. Sumiko publishes no trade-in program for its moving magnets; the plug-in stylus is the service.

The Rainier RS Replacement Stylus is not in our rooms at present. When it is the right piece for a client we arrange a demonstration unit from the manufacturer and set it up for a private session.
We deliver and install throughout the Portland area, taking care of placement, connections, ventilation and system configuration ourselves.
