The story
The RS Moonstone carries a finely polished 0.3 × 0.7 mil elliptical diamond on a purpose-built aluminum cantilever. The Rainier, Olympia, Moonstone and Wellfleet all share the same body and generator, so this stylus fits any of them. On a Moonstone, it restores factory performance. On a Rainier or Olympia, it turns the cartridge into a Moonstone, with more detail, better-defined bass and a wider, deeper soundstage. Either way it slides on in a minute with no remounting or realignment. Its output on this body is 3 mV.
To fit it, pull the old stylus assembly straight off the front of the cartridge and press the new one on until it seats; no tools, remounting or realignment are needed. Track it at 1.8–2.2 g, with 2.0 g recommended.
The RS Moonstone sits above the RS Olympia ($199) and below the RS Amethyst ($549), the top stylus for the Oyster bodies. Sumiko publishes no trade-in program for its moving magnets; the plug-in stylus is the service.
