The story
The 2024 S5 uses a new curved-and-shaped aluminum cabinet with 31% more internal volume than the previous S5, plus a curved front baffle to reduce diffraction. Magico used a Polytec laser vibrometer to measure and treat panel vibration, and a Klippel near-field scanner to map the speaker's on- and off-axis response. The 28 mm diamond-coated beryllium tweeter comes from the M Series. It sits above a 6-inch Nano-Tec Gen 8 midrange with a 3-inch voice coil and two 10-inch woofers with 5-inch titanium voice coils, capable of half an inch of linear movement.
Stereophile's John Atkinson called the S5 one of the finest-sounding speakers he has had in his listening room, praising its transparency and its large, stable soundstage. It went on to be Stereophile's 2025 Loudspeaker of the Year. The Absolute Sound's Tom Martin found it so free of coloration that differences between recordings become the main thing you hear. Magico recommends 50 to 1,000 W into its 4 Ω load, so it rewards a powerful amplifier. It is built for medium-to-large rooms.

For home theater, the matching center channel is the Magico SCC, and the matching subwoofer is the Magico S-Sub.
