The S5-4 adds what the S3 leaves out: a decoupled isolation platform on every one of its four shelves, so each component floats on its own level rather than sharing the frame.

The story
The S5 is built on the S3 chassis: damped aluminium pillars, 1.18-inch laminated MDF shelves, stainless hardware. On top of each shelf sits a second, smaller platform decoupled from the frame, so a turntable, a tube amplifier or a DAC rests on its own isolated surface instead of on the structure that carries everything else. The result is a two-stage system in a rack that still looks like a simple set of shelves.
At 39.7 inches with four levels the S5-4 is the tallest rack in the S range at this shelf count, and its 132-pound rating per level handles a serious power amplifier. Pole kits for the S5 are 20 millimetres longer than their nominal size to allow for the platform height, and the S5 Top X Shelf adds a level with its own platform.
The S5 is stocked in black. The factory also builds white and a black-and-silver anniversary finish to special order.

The S5 is the top of Solidsteel's S range, from two to five levels.
Below it, the S3-4 shares the same frame without the platforms. Above it, the Hyperspike HY-3 moves to solid steel pillars and spiked stacking.
