The story

Nordost positions the Odin 2 Tonearm Cable + as the cable for people who want the absolute best from a vinyl front end. Its four 23 AWG conductors of silver-plated 99.999999% oxygen-free copper, solid core, are suspended in Dual Mono-Filament, which Nordost says raises signal speed and reduces insulation contact by 85%, and each is individually shielded under TSC for 100% coverage. Lay and length are mechanically tuned. The RCA build measures 9.75 pF/ft and 0.11 µH/ft; the XLR build 23.5 pF/ft and 0.06 µH/ft.

Grounding follows Nordost's two-pronged approach: a fully isolated bond wire runs through the cable, and two detachable 23 AWG silver-plated solid-core whips in Dual Mono-Filament, ending in gold-plated 5 mm spades, let you ground to whichever point is quietest. Marc Mickelson evaluated the tonearm cable as part of his 2016 Audio Beat review of the Odin 2 range.

Choose a straight or 90° HOLO:PLUG low-mass 5-pin DIN or an RCA pair at the tonearm end and HOLO:PLUG RCA or XLR at the phono stage; the 90° DIN carries a surcharge and needs a pin orientation. Standard lengths run from 1.25 m to 6 m in the selector. It belongs on a reference turntable and tonearm feeding a Burmester, MOON or Boulder phono stage.

Key technologies

  • Dual Mono-Filament. Two FEP filaments wound around each conductor hold it in a virtual air dielectric inside its extruded FEP tube, cutting insulation contact by about 85%.
  • TSC shielding. Nordost's Total Signal Control: each conductor is individually shielded for 100% coverage, a virtual solid shield against EMI, RFI and crosstalk.
  • Bond wire and ground whips. A fully isolated bond wire plus two detachable 23 AWG silver-plated whips with gold-plated 5 mm spades.
  • Mechanically tuned. Conductor lay, spacing and length are set to Nordost's formula for the geometry.
  • HOLO:PLUG terminations. Gold-plated low-mass straight or 90° 5-pin DIN, RCA or XLR.
