The story

The INT-60 builds on the power supply and output stage of the .8 series amplifiers and adds a simplified preamplifier and an electronic volume control. Its high bias keeps the amplifier in Class A for the first 30 W, which is where most listening happens, and it is rated at 60 W per channel into 8 Ω and 120 W into 4 Ω with a damping factor of 150. A toroidal transformer with electrostatic and Mu-metal shielding, vacuum impregnation and epoxy fill feeds a supply with additional filtering. A microcontroller reads an optical encoder to set the volume in 1 dB steps over 63 dB, with the digital circuits run from a supply isolated from the analog section so control signals never touch the audio path.

There are four inputs, two of them XLR/RCA and two RCA, with preamplifier outputs, a remote, and selectable gain of 30 or 36 dB. Stereophile's reviewer found that the INT-60 softened the extra energy between 2 and 8 kHz on Zu loudspeakers and gave the bass more muscle, and that with Magnepan .7s it added slam and a lushness that occasionally went too far. Part-Time Audiophile wrote that it got him more involved and closer to the musical experience. Both speaker terminals are live and the black terminal is not a ground, which matters when connecting a subwoofer.

The INT-60 is the one-box Pass Labs system for loudspeakers of reasonable sensitivity in medium rooms, with the Class A character of the XA amplifiers. The INT-250 is the alternative for larger, less efficient loudspeakers, and a phono stage such as the XP-17 completes an analog system.

Key technologies

  • Class A to 30 W. High bias keeps the output stage in Class A for the first 30 W before it moves into AB to the rated 60 W.
  • .8 series power stage. The power supply and output stage are drawn from the .8 series power amplifiers.
  • Shielded toroidal supply. Electrostatic and Mu-metal shielding, vacuum impregnation and epoxy fill, with extra filtering.
  • Isolated control. A microcontroller reads an optical encoder; digital circuits run from a separate supply and never touch the audio.
  • Selectable gain. 30 or 36 dB, with four inputs (two XLR/RCA, two RCA) and preamplifier outputs.

Finishes

  • Silver anodized aluminum, standard
  • Black anodized aluminum, factory option

Silver is the standard finish shown. Black is available to order at additional cost; ask us for a quote.
