The story
Transformers, power-supply capacitors and active devices all vibrate, and the soft feet fitted to most components trap that energy inside the chassis. Nordost's Sort Kone is a three-part, mechanically tuned cone that bypasses the feet and gives the vibration a direct mechanical ground path out of the component. A post and base of the chosen metal couple through a ceramic ball, which keeps the contact area small.
Three grades are offered: AC in aluminum, BC in bronze and TC in titanium, at three price and performance levels. Marc Rushton of StereoNET began as a sceptic and found the Kones gave a clearly audible gain in clarity and soundstage for a modest outlay. Nordost's own description is a blacker background, and that matches what we hear under a DAC or preamplifier.
Sort Kones are sold singly so you can choose the number for each component; three are usual, four for heavy amplifiers, and Nordost's placement guide suggests one under the transformer. They also fit the QNET Stand and the QBASE Stand Mount. Start with a set of three under your source.
