The story
The QPOINT is the most unusual product in Nordost's QRT line and, in our experience, one of the more consistent. It emits a subtle field that Nordost says manipulates all electromechanical resonances in its immediate proximity, bringing them into sync so that the component's own internal noise falls and its timing and coherence improve. It is placed directly beneath a component or on top of it, one QPOINT per component, and its effects are cumulative across a system.
Two modes are offered. Mode I and Mode II generate different resonances that emphasise different musical characteristics while lowering the noise floor, and switching between them is instant, so you can decide by ear which suits a particular component. Jacob Heilbrunn of The Absolute Sound, in December 2020, found both the QPOINT and the QSOURCE audibly beneficial while expecting readers to be sceptical of the explanation; Hi-Fi+ and High Fidelity each gave it an award in 2019.
Each QPOINT ships with a DC power supply. Nordost's QSOURCE linear supply, which can power up to four QPOINTs plus a QNET, is the recommended upgrade, and we can arrange an audition of the two together. Start with one QPOINT under the source or DAC and listen before adding more.
