The C7ES-3 XD2, the latest generation of the Compact 7, puts Harbeth's 200 mm RADIAL4 bass/mid driver and a 25 mm ferrofluid-cooled tweeter in a medium-sized cabinet. RADIAL4 is the latest version of the cone material Harbeth develops and makes itself, and the XD2 generation adds a newly refined crossover for better integration across the drivers.

StereoNET's review of the XD2 describes a natural, effortless presentation with a deep, wide soundstage, plenty of detail and a calm, never-harsh balance. It wants a capable amplifier (Harbeth suggests 25 W per channel or more; the reviewer used 100 W) and stands of around 500 mm (20 in) that put the tweeters at ear height. Harbeth optimizes its response for use away from walls. It suits small and medium-sized rooms.
