McIntosh's entry turntable: a belt-drive deck with a thick, heavy platter, a factory-fitted Sumiko cartridge and McIntosh's green glow.
The MT2 is designed to arrive almost ready to play and then need very little attention. Its outer platter is more than an inch thick and machined from dynamically balanced POM, which absorbs vibration. It turns on a polished, tempered-steel shaft in sintered bronze bushings. The DC motor is decoupled from the chassis and runs from an external, voltage-stabilized power supply, with servo speed control and fine adjustment. The plinth is resonance-optimized compressed wood in black lacquer with acrylic top and middle plates, and a soft green light glows under the platter and along the edges. The dural-aluminum tonearm is damped internally, runs in sapphire and ceramic bearings, and is adjustable for VTA, anti-skate and azimuth.
A Sumiko Moonstone moving magnet cartridge (3.0 mV) comes installed, so the MT2 plugs straight into the MM phono input of any McIntosh preamplifier, integrated amplifier, phono stage or home theater product with a phono input, or any other good MM input. It plays 33⅓ and 45 rpm. It suits someone adding vinyl to a McIntosh system who wants a matched look and a simple setup. Tracking Angle and Sound+Image have both reviewed it favorably. The cartridge can be upgraded later as your system grows.
