A rigid headshell machined from a single block of ultra-duralumin, for tonearms with detachable headshells.
The headshell is the first thing a cartridge's vibration meets on its way into the tonearm, so a stiff, well-damped part can make an audible difference. DS Audio machines the HS-001 from a solid billet of ultra-duralumin rather than using a stamped or cast shell. The connector is aluminum with gold-plated terminals. The shell leads are Japanese-made 4N Litz wire, hand-soldered to the connector, and the lead tips are also gold-plated. At about 10.5 g it is on the heavier side, so check that your tonearm's counterweight can balance it with your cartridge.
