A T+A belt-drive turntable with DSP motor control, a Clearaudio-built carbon tonearm and a moving-coil cartridge, set up to play with minimal fuss.
The G 2000 R drives a heavy die-cast aluminum platter (about 3.8 kg, or 8.4 lb) by belt from a zinc sub-platter. Its quartz-referenced AC synchronous motor is managed by a DSP circuit that fine-tunes the voltage to the motor coils, including during start-up, and speeds are switched electronically from the front panel. The chassis is MDF with a bonded aluminum skin to damp vibration, on shock-absorbing feet. As reviewed by HiFi News, it comes with the Carbon 2 tonearm, built by Clearaudio to T+A's specification with a woven carbon-fiber tube and adjustable headshell, fitted with T+A's MC 2 moving-coil cartridge. An integral MM or MC phono stage is available as an option, set by DIP switches underneath. Rear R2-LINK sockets let T+A amplifiers control it remotely.
HiFi News found it even-handed and poised, with strong bass, open and detailed treble and good vocal presence, and kind to imperfect pressings, and its lab results were solid. The Ear praised how easy it is to set up and how quiet and detailed it sounds with the built-in phono stage. It suits someone who wants a high-quality analog front end that arrives essentially complete, rather than assembling a turntable, arm and cartridge separately. Its feet are not adjustable, so it needs a solid, level shelf. Finishes are silver or black.
