A record stabilizer that measures how far off-center a record is and shows you how to correct it, for steadier pitch and less tonearm wander.
Even a slightly off-center pressing makes the groove swing back and forth under the stylus. You hear that as slow pitch wavering (wow), and it can shift the stereo image. The ES-002 sits on the spindle like a normal stabilizer. With the platter spinning, a light press on the top stops the unit and puts it into measuring mode, and in about two seconds it maps the record's eccentricity. Then you stop the platter and nudge the record until the on-screen crosshair sits on the true center. Color cues show how far off you are. Restart the platter to confirm. It is the improved successor to DS Audio's ES-001.
It comes in two versions with the same measuring accuracy and functions. The Reference has a non-magnetic tungsten base plate, premium metal internal parts, a USB cable and a dedicated case. The Core uses a brass base plate and some lightweight resin internal parts to bring the cost down. It weighs 100 g less.
