Clearaudio's ebony-bodied, eight-magnet moving coil with gold coils: a step into Clearaudio's V2 MC range.
The Talisman V2.1 Gold pairs Clearaudio's patented eight-magnet system with coils of 24-karat gold wire. The coils are laid out symmetrically about the pivot so both channels see the same magnetic conditions. The body is hand-polished ebony, which Clearaudio uses for its resonance damping. The V2.1 update brought a finer stylus. It now uses a boron cantilever with a Clearaudio Prime Line diamond.
Like Clearaudio's other moving coils, the Talisman puts out about 0.5 mV from a 50 Ω internal impedance. Use an MC phono stage with around 60 dB of gain or a step-up transformer, and expect to experiment a little with loading. Medium compliance and a 2.8 g tracking force suit a rigid medium-mass tonearm. At about 11 g, it is a little heavier than the Concerto and Stradivari, so check that your arm's counterweight covers it. Above it in the range are the Concerto V2.1 (Satiné wood) and Stradivari V2.1 (aged ebony).
