Clearaudio's first moving coil in a Panzerholz body: deep, controlled bass, a natural midrange and a mix of modern precision and classic warmth.
Clearaudio built the Jubilee MC to mark 40 years of designing and building cartridges in Erlangen, Germany. Its body is Panzerholz, a very dense laminated wood with low resonance. Each body is specially lacquered and polished, a finish Clearaudio says draws on the violin makers of nearby Bubenreuth. Inside are 24-karat gold coils arranged symmetrically about the pivot. A boron cantilever carries a Clearaudio Prime Line diamond, and channel separation is better than 32 dB.
Hi-Fi News heard deep, controlled bass, quick but not aggressive treble and a natural midrange that gives voices real presence. It called the Jubilee a hybrid of contemporary precision and the warm midrange of classic designs. The lab report recommends a fairly low effective-mass tonearm despite the 2.8 g tracking force, and loading of about 50–100 Ω. Output is about 0.5 mV, so use an MC phono stage with around 60 dB of gain or a step-up transformer. Don't overtighten the mounting screws.
