Sonetto VIII G2 shares its top end with the Sonetto V: a 6.5-inch Camelia midrange and the 1.1-inch DAD Arrow Point tweeter in a sealed cork enclosure. Below them, two 8-inch woofers in a larger, down-vented cabinet take the bass to 33 Hz. Crossover points are 350 Hz and 2,500 Hz.

The bigger woofers add bass depth and dynamic headroom without clouding the midrange, so it suits larger rooms, orchestral and electronic music, and home theater. At 90 dB it is the most sensitive Sonetto, and Sonus faber recommends 50 to 400 W into its 4 Ω load; a high-current amplifier keeps the woofers in check.

Key technologies

  • Camelia midrange. A cone first developed for Suprema, with five cuts that break up the resonances of a round cone, left unpainted.
  • Cork chamber. Tweeter and midrange sit in a cork enclosure, a material carried over from Suprema.
  • Twin 8 in woofers. The largest woofers in the Sonetto range, in a down-vented enclosure.
  • DAD Arrow Point tweeter. A 1.1 in Damped Apex Dome silk tweeter with a copper shorting ring and copper cup, extending response beyond 30 kHz.
  • 45° wood veneer. The angled veneer pattern used on Stradivari, Amati and the Homage range.
