The Boulder 1163 Stereo Power Amplifier brings the 1100 Series’ signature transparency and control into a more compact, installation-friendly chassis. Sharing the same footprint as the 1110 Preamplifier, it delivers 150W of continuous power per channel into 8 ohms, with peak output climbing to 200W into 8 ohms, 325W into 4 ohms, and 550W into 2 ohms—authority that belies its modest dimensions and standard power cord.
At its core, the 1163 employs Boulder’s own 985 gain stage, the identical circuit found in the larger 1162, ensuring the same resolution and signal handling. A fully balanced input-to-output architecture preserves common-mode noise rejection, while a redesigned automatic biasing circuit maintains precise calibration without manual intervention. The output stage marshals 40 transistors and 12 supply capacitors, providing stable, high-current delivery into any loudspeaker load while safeguarding detail and clarity. Newly developed protection circuitry instantly mutes the output in the event of a shorted cable or system fault, simultaneously enabling greater peak power reserves. Software updates for the internal control and housekeeping systems are available via automated online download or manual USB installation.
