Rega’s Valve Isis represents a decade of research into the application of vacuum-tube topology within a reference-level CD player. By employing a valve-based analogue output stage driven by twin Wolfson WM8741 digital-to-analogue converters, it delivers the textural richness and harmonic integrity associated with classic tube design while preserving the resolution and low noise floor of an advanced digital engine. The result is a player that communicates the rhythmic drive and tonal density of a recording without editorial warmth or artificial softening.

Every subsystem reflects a commitment to galvanic isolation and power-supply refinement. Separate 50 VA transformers serve the digital and analogue sections, while the USB input benefits from its own regulated supply and double-clocked interface to reject computer-borne noise. The differential amplifier stage uses military-grade 5814A triodes, followed by a passive Butterworth filter and an ECC88-based output buffer driving a transformer-coupled balanced output. This unorthodox architecture yields predominantly even-order harmonic distortion at a modest 0.06% THD, allowing the valve circuit to contribute spatial openness and midrange presence without obscuring the precision of the digital core.

Compatibility

Allows direct connection to a laptop or PC via a USB A-B lead to stream internet radio, MP3 or WMA files directly from a computer via the high quality Isis internal DAC. The USB input uses an isolated double-clocked USB interface, which permits the digital to analogue stage to be used with a computer USB interface and its own regulated power supply. The USB benefits from galvanic isolation from the main circuitry of the Isis player which eliminates the flow of earth currents between the CD and host computer, and eliminates computer power supply noise.

Every product is designed and assembled in the UK to the highest possible standard. This warranty covers confirmed manufacturing defects. This warranty does not cover wear and tear, or parts that are considered consumable. Any unauthorised modifications or failure to follow the Rega recommended guidelines in the product manual may invalidate the warranty.
