Ortofon MC Quintet Blue Moving Coil Phono Cartridge
The MC Quintet Blue advances the Quintet platform with a Nude Elliptical diamond on an aluminum cantilever and four-nines-pure silver coil wire. It retains the series' useful 0.5 mV output and alignment-friendly body.
Pearl Audio’s Take
For many systems, the Blue is the point where the Quintet line becomes a long-term cartridge rather than an introduction to moving coil. The nude diamond is a meaningful mechanical upgrade while phono-stage requirements remain practical.
Nude Elliptical stylus
Directly mounting the diamond to the cantilever reduces unnecessary moving mass. Ortofon specifies 70 µm tracking ability and a recommended tracking force of 2.3 grams.
Silver coil wire
Four-nines-pure silver winding is used in the moving-coil generator, which provides a 0.5 mV output from a 7-ohm internal impedance.
Clear setup references
The Quintet body's straight edges make overhang and zenith easier to judge during installation, helping the stylus work as intended.
System Matching and Setup
Use with a low-noise moving-coil input capable of appropriate gain for 0.5 mV and loading above 20 Ω. Confirm that the 9-gram body and 15 µm/mN compliance are suitable for the tonearm.
