The Audio Research LS-3 is a solid-state line preamplifier that draws its inspiration from the award-winning LS3 of 1992, reimagined with contemporary circuit topology. A fully balanced differential JFET input stage feeds a bipolar voltage amplifier and Class-A output stages, executed in a dual-mono layout with separate power transformers and zero-gain cascaded voltage references. The linear power supplies are engineered to deliver low noise and the dynamic headroom that complex musical passages demand.
Housed in an all-aluminum chassis that provides the rigidity needed to isolate the signal path, the LS-3 includes a new touchscreen display that carries forward the font style of Audio Research’s Reference GhostMeters®. The interface allows input naming, display intensity and color selection, and other setup functions. Sonically, the circuit renders sources with a rich tonal balance, speed, and a sense of energy that propels the music forward while preserving air, space, and focus within the recording.
